why are people on here complaining about not enough refineries?

st paul park
TRUTH asked:

and blaming enviromentalist for none being built, when every major refinery in the country has been through several expansions and are double the size they originaly were.
i know this first hand and have seen it with my own eyes because i helped build them and have plenty of work . marathon oil is expanding their garyville louisiana refinery and from their own words “Marathon has stated that they are essentially building a new refinery next door to the original one”

valero energy refinery in beaumont tx has been expanded, marathon oil in st paul park minnesota has too,BP in texas city and toledo.there have been expansions in california, hawaii, arizona, the carolinas, florida, alabama, louisiana.

the refining capacity is there and there is no real need to build more refineries ,all we need to do is continue expanding.
i noticed a few responses were “we need to tear down the old ones”

the existing refineries are in the oil pipeline and in the ports they need to be in and are been modernized. in the last 15 years that i have been working on refineries,i have yet to see a run down one. the implications of bad maintenance are too costly for oil companies to ignore. look at BP in texas city, after several fatalities of workers due to not maintaining them, they got their pants sued off.

after the explosions, they installed anew allky unit and new hydrocracker and that increased their capacity by 2 hundred thousand gallons of gas a day.
here are more refinery expansion.

Among those who have announced expansions are Valero, adding an additional 400,000 barrels per day, and Chevron and ExxonMobil, each adding 75,000 barrels per day. Suncor, Motiva, and Citgo also have expansion plans.
Companies prefer expansions - that is, adding more refining facilities - instead of building new ones on different sites because it’s faster and will probably not require new zoning.

MR DOODLES- please dont try to tell me i know nothing of enviromental reports.i posted up all the facts you need,if you fail to look at them ,then thats your problem.i have been in this field for over 15 years and have worked on refineries and power plants, chemical plant, nuclear power plants all over the U.S and the world. refineries produce only fuel. chemical plants produce polymers and such,i have been in enough DOW,DUPONT etc plants to know this as fact and not speculation. until you have stepped foot in one, dont try to tell me i am not a subject matter expert on them.
